Trans Nzoia County Delegation in Talks with Former President Obasanjo on Establishing a University

A delegation from Trans Nzoia County, led by Speaker Andrew Wanyonyi, held a crucial meeting with former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at the Obasanjo Presidential Library in Ota, Nigeria.

The talks focused on exploring collaboration to establish a university in Trans Nzoia, following recommendations from a task force appointed by Governor George Natembeya. The delegation included Professor Masibo Lumala, chair of the university establishment task force, along with key county officials.

Others in the delegation were the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service, the County Executive Committee Member for Education, the Chief Officer for Education, and the Clerk of the County Assembly.

During the meeting, former President Obasanjo, a strong advocate for education and a promoter of Bells University, Ota, shared valuable insights on university development.

Discussions covered policy frameworks, infrastructure planning, investment opportunities, and strategies for fostering a strong academic culture.

Possible areas of collaboration included faculty exchange programs, scholarships for Trans Nzoia students, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Speaker Wanyonyi highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating: "Education is a powerful tool for development. This engagement with H.E. Obasanjo and other experts will shape the foundation of a university that meets the needs of our county."

The visit represents a significant step toward expanding higher education opportunities in Trans Nzoia.

By engaging with experienced education leaders, the county aims to create an institution that will equip future generations with the skills needed for economic growth and innovation.

Union Demands Accountability After Attack on Trans Nzoia Enforcement Officers

The Kenya County Government Workers Union in Trans Nzoia has demanded accountability from County Secretary Truphosa Amere following a violent attack on county enforcement officers by machete-wielding goons during a clearance operation on disputed land. The confrontation, which occurred during an operation to clear a road leading to the under-construction County Headquarters, left eight officers with deep cut wounds.
